HaqCheck
HaqCheck is a local and multilingual fact-checking initiative based in Ethiopia. It was formed inside Addis Zeybe’s newsroom in November 2020 and is now Inform Africa’s Countering disinformation project. Our organization has been registered and accorded legal personality with a registry number 5520 on March 23, 2021, as a local organization under the Ethiopia Civil Society Organizations Proclamation 1113/2019 by FDRE Authority for Civil society Organizations.
HaqCheck is an independent and non-partisan initiative that collaborates with media outlets to monitor and fact-check media content in English and four local languages (Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Tigrigna, and Somali).
Since its establishment, HaqCheck has been fact-checking different issues in the Ethiopian media landscape. In addition to this, HaqCheck also prepares weekly summaries and monthly trend analyses and researches current and relevant issues in collaboration with different organizations and media institutes.
